What You'll Do


This position manages the insurance reimbursement functions of NHRMC Physician Group. Works with patients to identify charges associated with non-covered or out-of-pocket procedures. Assists office manager and other staff with office functions, such as scheduling and answering patient calls to maximize office efficiency. Responsible for all daily registration, scheduling, charge entry, insurance eligibility, updating demographics/insurance information, collecting / posting co-pays. Additionally, serve as a medical assistant supporting all clinical duties up-to and including rooming, obtaining vitals, phlebotomy, injections and documenting all in the patient medical record. Scope of duties: Medical office/front desk 50% - Clinical support 50%.


1.Monitors, evaluates and follows-up on the daily Census for new admissions and status change updates.

2.Analyzes insurance coverage and benefits for services ensuring, verifying all prior authorization requirements with the payer and initiating the notice of admission (NOA) as appropriate to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement.

3.Analyzes and identifies financial liability for insured, uninsured and underinsured patients.

4.Calculates and collects payments appropriately for all patients, including prior account balances; escalating payment concerns, and discussing payment and financial assistance options.

5.Effectively communicates and collects financial responsibility and provide financial options to the patient and/or responsible party through face-to-face financial counseling either at the point of admission, in the admitting/service area department and/or at the bedside during the patients stay.

6.Provides the patient and/or responsible party with a financial responsibility document/letter and ensures daily reconciliation of cash collections.

7.Determine if the patient’s condition is the result of an accident - performing complete research as needed to determine the appropriate source of liability/payment.

8.Reviews accounts for accuracy and quality, correcting demographic and financial data as necessary.

9.Provide registration support and feedback as appropriate.

10.Resolves all system edits and remedies expediently including daily work queues, reports and audits.

11.Interacts with Social Workers, Case Managers, Nursing care units and Third Party vendors related to patient financial concerns, assistance, authorizations and compliance.

12.Promotes and maintain the highest quality level of service excellence for all customers, exhibiting a welcoming environment.

13.Maintains privacy and confidentiality standards as an expression of respect for the discretion and dignity of each person.Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision and values of NHRMC and observes all regulations mandated by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

14.Maintain general knowledge of CMS guidelines and third party payers, specifically Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial insurances, HMO’s, PPO’s, POS, indemnity plans, Worker’s Compensation and auto or liability payers;

15.Makes referrals to appropriate vendors for admission criteria/financial clearance as appropriate.

16.Recording patient interview, history, and chief complaint

17.Ability to obtain an accurate set of vitals

18.Assisting the physician or midwife with exams and minor office surgery

19.Maintaining supplies, equipment, stocking and sterilizing instruments

20.Disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards

21.Performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times

22.Maintains compliance within regulatory agencies such as HIPPA, OSHA, and CLIA and the accrediting body if applicable

Position Requirements


* High School Diploma

Other information:

Experience: Minimum two-year healthcare finance/business office and/or admission office experience in health care setting with computer knowledge and data entry.

 Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence. 

Performs other duties as assigned. 

Individual will possess commensurate combination of education, experience and qualifications.
