What You'll Do

Summary:

The OH OR Nurse Manager works under the supervision of the Perioperative Clinical Director The OR Manager is responsible for the planning, priority setting, coordination and evaluation of patient care delivery performed in the 8 designated Orthopedic ORs and 1 Procedure Room. The OR Manager assumes responsibility for the management of fiscal and material resources to include 24-hour accountability for human resource and outcome management. The OR manager maintains current surgical clinical skills and is clinically competent to support in the delivery of care. The OR Manager facilitates collegial relationships between patient care teams to include surgeons, surgeon offices and supporting ancillary departments. The OR Manager accountable for patient outcomes and patient experience as well staff and provider satisfaction. 


Responsibilities:

1. Works in direct collaboration with OR surgeons and anesthesia team to ensure: optimal case preparation, equipment/instrumentation availability, ideal OR suite efficiency, smooth case coordination between outside departments, and appropriate human resource allocation based on case needs.

2. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships among surgical services leaders and leaders of supporting departments by communicating information, responding to requests promptly, and building rapport.

3. Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and all policies and procedures related to the OR.

4. Performs oversight in development of quality measures, ensures performance of corrective action plans deployed for improved performance, and provides consistent data collection on measure performance.

5. Responsible for all aspects of managing and leading a team to include: interviewing, onboarding, developing, directing work and processes, schedule management, managing poor performance, and rewarding or recognizing excellent performance.

6. Acts as a clinical resource to OR team and maintains ability to perform clinical care through active clinical assistance.

7. Manages staffing and operational effectiveness through proactive rounds to identify and react to concerns of potential or actual conflict, seeking resolution to be shared with team for loop closure. Assesses external and internal customer satisfaction through daily rounding, visibility within the unit and utilizing patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction and physician satisfaction reports as a measurement.

8. Establishes and maintains effective formalized communication systems for information sharing, planning and problem solving with: unit staff, Perioperative Clinical Director, surgeons, and anesthesia.

9. Responsible for staff completion of education requirements, including clinical competence, compliance and organizational initiatives.

10. Demonstrates fiscal accountability for resources required for delivery of care performed in assigned department through: reviewing inventory usage reports, identifying trends, anticipating needed supplies, and approving cost allocations.

11. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by seeking opportunities to attend educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing professional networks.

12. Demonstrates adherence to standards that support the organizational mission, vision, and values.

13.  Performs other duties as required.

Other information:

1. Education: Bachelors Degree required. BSN preferred.

2. Licensure/Certifications: Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of North Carolina. BCLS required and certification in departmental specialty (CNOR) preferred.

3. Experience: 5-10 years experience as an RN (3 within OR operations) and 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience.
