Work Schedule: 8HR DAY - Most of shift btwn 7A-3P

What You'll Do

Summary:
Under the direction of the department manager, coordinates patient throughput and daily assignments of office staff. Responsible for assuring the quality of all scheduling, patient registrations, and financial clearance performed. Maintains a high level of understanding of billing regulation information, keeping current with ever changing regulations. Responsible for researching coding and billing guidelines related to the services performed. Exhibits technical skills necessary for the retrieval, validation and reporting of statistical patient data relating to current quality initiatives, patient access, billing and coding. Conducts chart audits or data mining analytics to determine accurate and timely charge capture and billing. Reports and recommends findings to department manager. Work is accomplished in accordance with the policies and regulations of local, state and federal authorities as well as accepted standards of practice.


Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates the standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication and compassion) and uses required service excellence tools to support a positive patient experience.
2. Actively participates in team decision making and performance improvement initiatives to improve business services, processes and outcomes.
3. Uses critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide quality service to our customers.
4. Reviews legislation and regulations which may impact revenue and coding for services. This includes knowledge of Medicaid and Tricare regulations as well as understanding of commercial payor guidelines.
5. Reviews electronic medical records, physician’s orders and other relevant patient care information to ensure all required credentialing, documentation, pre-authorizations and pre-determinations are obtained and complete, as needed to complete registration, post charges, ensure timely billing and complete registration process.
6. Works closely with department manager to identify and evaluate future needs and workflow processes relating to services, including but not limited to, pre-registration, registration, and billing. Educates staff on registration processes, insurance, billing and associated regulatory guidelines.
7. Maintains expertise and proficiency of scheduling (where applicable) and registration systems, as well as, competency to perform all duties required of staff performing scheduling (where applicable), registration, and financial clearance duties.
8. Resolves system edits and performs account correction from work queues, and ensures appropriate charge capture for billing.

Other information:
1. Education: 2 year college degree in business related field or 5 years of experience in a hospital setting required.
2. Licensure / Certifications: None.
3. Experience: Two to five years of experience in inpatient hospital setting. Requires an understanding of the registration/billing/scheduling process applicable to the operations of both inpatient and hospital based outpatient units, including but not limited to, newborn, maternity and pediatric patients. Strong attention to detail.
