Summary:

The number one job responsibility of the Manager Nurse Residencies, is to deliver the most remarkable patient experience, in every dimension, every time. This leader plans, implements, and evaluates the Novant Health nursing transition programs, i.e., nurse residency and student nurse apprentice programs, which assist nurses through critical transitions to practice. This leader directly supervises all nurses and nursing students participating in these programs. 


Responsibilities:

Leadership: Provides consistent and fair oversight. Translates the organization’s mission, vision, and values to align and optimize the activities of transitioning nurses at Novant Health. Role models values in all interactions. Maintains an environment that supports and respects diversity, active communication, and regular dialogue with team members. Ensures a highly collaborative relationship with Nursing and other clinical leaders in the development of transition to practice programs. Markets programs with local schools of nursing. Coordinates all educational programming for nurses in transition programs; i.e., residents and student nurse apprentices (SNAPs). Determines work schedules for residents and SNAPs. Communicates to nurse managers and other key leaders regarding incoming residents and SNAPs, including the unit’s responsibilities when hosting. Coordinates transfers of residents and SNAPs into permanent unit positions. Plans logistics related to recognition ceremonies. Evaluates transition programs according to key metrics, including participant satisfaction, leader satisfaction, and retention rates. Ensures compliance with ANCC Nurse Residency Accreditation standards. Connects the dots between the transitioning nurse and the organization’s mission, vision, values and promise. Sets clear expectations for transitioning nurses, implements orientation plans and coaches team members on the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully carry out the role. Provides residents and SNAPs with emotional support and career counseling as needed. Communication: Creates an environment that supports and respects diversity to promote creative problem solving. Business Acumen: Maintains organizational policy and procedure, including rules of conduct. Quality Improvement: Demonstrates knowledge of process improvement principles and applies appropriately to improvement activities. Implements the strategic plan for nurse transition programs at Novant Health. Evaluates core processes to identify opportunities for improvement. Demonstrates creativity, imagination, and innovation when implementing and revising transition programs. Customer Service: Holds staff accountable for customer service standards and ensures service recovery when needed. Human Resources: Provides ongoing informal and formal feedback to direct reports consistent with organizational policies and procedures. Hires and coordinates all nurses entering the Residency and SNAP programs. Financial: Manages positions within the department to achieve quality and productivity, and meet budget. Monitors budgets for accurate distribution of productive and non-productive time to residency and operational cost centers. All other duties as assigned.

Education: Master’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred. 

Licensure / Certifications: Current RN licensure in appropriate state. 

Experience: Minimum four years nursing experience in education, administration, research, or practice
