What You'll Do

Summary:

Reporting to Director of Financial Reporting, manages accounting staff in general ledger and capital asset areas. Responsible for completion of financial reports relating to internal and external financial statements and financial reports to Administration and the Board of Trustees, to include key operating indicators and financial analysis. Financial reporting responsibilities for the Novant Health – New Hanover System include Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center individually as well as consolidated financial reporting. Responsible for completion of monthly general ledger account reconciliations to assure timely and accurate financial reporting. Responsible for maintenance of Chart of Accounts and designated as departmental Lawson (Infor) “super user”. Responsible for management of Asset Management and Project and Activities systems in Lawson and monthly reporting of capital commitments. Key role in overall checks and balances for department functions. Primary contact for V.P./Controller in absence of Director of Financial Reporting.


Responsibilities:

1.Oversees the functions of the general ledger and capital asset accounting staff in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.Compiles reporting package for Administration and Board of Trustees

2.Manages the preparation and performs review of general ledger account reconciliations completed by general ledger and capital asset accounting staff.Completes major general ledger account reconciliations as required.

3.Participates in financial audits, including the preparation of client assistance workpapers and responding to inquiries from external auditors.

4.Collaborates with and provides oversight to outsourced accounting of Physician Group, including GL, reconciliation, capital assets, allowances and physician compensation.

5.Responsible for Capital Asset accounting function and team.

6.Assists V.P./Controller and Director of Financial Reporting with departmental and organization policies and procedures as needed.

7.Performs account analysis on accounts, including those requiring estimates for financial reporting including but not limited to analysis of A/R provisions and allowances, and other contingency reserves; investigates and resolves variances.

8.Leads the transition team on all physician group practice acquisitions and start-ups for Fiscal Services.Designing the implementation plan and coordinating the subcommittee meetings to ensure a smooth integration.

9.Super user for department on Lawson setup, maintenance and application issues.Responsible for maintenance of Asset Management, General Ledger and Projects and Activities Modules in Lawson. Primary contract for other Lawson super users across the organization regarding fiscal services systems. Responsible for system closing/posting functions for month and year end.Liaison to Epic team – provides G/L strings for all transactions (at go-live or when new transactions arise).

10.Responsible for the professional development and training of general ledger and capital asset accounting staff.

11.Performs numerous related duties, assists others as needed and performs special assignments when requested.

Other information:

1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. Master’s in Accounting, Business Administration (MBA), or related field preferred. 

2. Licensure / Certifications: CPA preferred. 

3. Experience: Five years industry experience( or related field) and at least 2 years of prior supervisory experience required. Prefer experience in healthcare setting in large organization. Experience with Infor (or similar ERP) Software preferred. Outstanding interpersonal skills related to communications, both internal and external and both written and oral. Demonstrates proficiency in various software packages including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to prepare financial statements, graphs, flow charts, data presentation, etc. Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills.
