What You'll Do


Under the direction of the Healthcare Preparedness Manager (HPM), will assist in completion of deliverables of the North Carolina Healthcare Preparedness Program including but not limited to supporting Long Term Care (LTC) COVID initiatives, including strengthening infection prevention and control. Will also work in partnership with the North Carolina Office of EMS along with facilities, agencies, regional partners and key personnel within other state, regional and local agencies.


1.Provide Infection Control Education and Training to LTC Facilities.

a.Review LTC facilities infection prevention practices.

b.Provide instruction to staff in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage – donning, doffing, re-use, disposal, etc.

c.Provide infection prevention and control guidance that follows CDC and DHHS recommendations for patient cohorting.

2.Provide support with Just-In-Time Respiratory Protection Program elements.

a.Assist facilities with respiratory fit testing (in accordance with OSHA 1910.134).

b.Assist facilities with developing an ongoing facility respiratory protection program.

3.Assist the Coalition in ensuring facilities have access to proper PPE.

a.Assist facilities in completing the PPE request form and process.

b.Assist Coalition in delivering emergent PPE needs and/or other resource needs.

4.Assist NCOEMS in coordinating facility staffing needs

5.Assist other agencies as needed in coordinating LTC COVID support activities.

6.Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

* Drivers License Class C

* Associate Degree

Other information:

Education: Associate’ Degree required. NC OEMS Instructor Level I or higher and/or NC OSFM Instructor Level I or higher preferred. 

Licensure / Certifications: NCDL Class C or higher required. 

Experience: None required. 3 years in Long Term Care and/or Skilled Nursing Facility environment, Industrial Hygiene or Infection Control preferred. 

Strong working knowledge of infection prevention and control practices along with OSHA blood and airborne pathogens training. Ability to organize, develop and conduct formal training programs. Ability to utilize and effectively teach donning and doffing of medical personal protective equipment. Ability to coordinate and collaborate with patients, staff and outside agencies. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. 

Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence. 

Performs other duties as assigned. 

Individual will possess commensurate combination of education, experience and qualifications.
