What You'll Do


The Sepsis Coordinator works under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Safety. The coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of the Sepsis Program at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and for driving the successful campaign of the Sepsis Quality Pillar Goal. The coordinator monitors the day-to-day clinical activities of the Sepsis Program and serves as primary contact with clinical areas throughout New Hanover Regional Medical Center. This person is responsible for the organization and presentation of concurrent data and information to the Sepsis Committee. 


1.Facilitates the continual development, implementation, refinement and ongoing adherence of sepsis program protocols and therapies and promotes adoption of national standards and best practices in the management of sepsis patients at NHRMC.

2.Ensures the protocols and therapies become the standard of care followed within the facility.

3.Collaborates with medical and hospital staff to provide multidisciplinary care to septic patients.

4.Assists with sepsis education in the early identification and treatment of septic patients. Provides education clinical expertise to care team, patients and families.

5.Identifies and integrates patient learning needs, abilities and readiness into the Plan of Care.

6.Participates in rounding and proactively responds to patient needs to improve patient outcomes and positively impact overall patient experience.

7.Daily monitoring of reports designed to capture sepsis patient population and daily chart audits.

8.Collects, analyzes and disseminates sepsis program patient data to assist with documentation, coding, clinical care and improved outcomes.

9.Performs comprehensive case reviews to ensure maintenance of care standards and recognition/reparation of process issues.

10.Meets weekly with Physician Champions

11.Updates sepsis data weekly for reporting of OPPE for physicians and allied health providers.

12.Provides leadership for the Sepsis Committee in implementing improvement processes.

13.Participates in and coordinates research to further sepsis care. 

Position Requirements

* Registered Nurse

* Masters Degree

Other information:

Experience: Five to seven years of clinical practice, preferred experience in emergency medicine, cardiac services or intensive care. Combined clinical experience with experience in research, data management or program management will be considered. Current knowledge of sepsis care.Effective speaker before large and small groups. Must be able to communicate and be literate in the English language.

Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence. 

Performs other duties as assigned. 

Individual will possess commensurate combination of education, experience and qualifications.
