What You'll Do

Summary:

The Cancer Registrar identifies and abstracts diagnoses, staging, and treatment information for patients with a malignancy according to the American College of Surgeons’ (ACoS) and North Carolina Central Cancer Registry’s standards. Retrieves, and analyzes registry data; performs quality control functions to assure accuracy and completeness of data. 


Responsibilities:

1.Identifies all reportable cancer cases according to ACOS guidelines and departmental procedure.

2.Ability to analyze pathology, radiology and multiple medical records to accurately abstract data into the Cancer Registry database.

3.Provides input and support to achieve and maintain accreditation by the American College of Surgeons.

4.Maintains knowledge of Commission on Cancer standards as well as National Cancer Database and North Carolina Central Cancer Registry reporting requirements

5.Obtains subsequent follow-up and treatment information in a timely manner from all available resources according to ACOS standards; uses this information to expeditiously update cases

6.Ability to pull, analyze and prepare statistical data as needed for multiple customers.

7.Performs routine quality control edit checks and case audits to assure accuracy and completeness of data.

8.Attends and provides support for Oncology Advisory Committee and Cancer Conferences as the need arises.

9.Reports any deficiencies in registry operations to Oncology Support Manager and/or Oncology Administrator that would hinder program approval by ACOS.

10.Appropriately maintains professional credentials and continues to stay current of new diagnostic and treatment trends in the field of cancer by attending continuing education seminars locally, regionally, and nationally.

Experience: Minimum of one year experience in health care setting, Cancer Registry experience preferred   

Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence. 

Performs other duties as assigned. 

Individual will possess commensurate combination of education, experience and qualifications.
