Medical Physicist

The Radiation Oncology Department at NHRMC is inviting applications from talented physicists to fill 3 newly created positions. If you want to make an impact, then this is the place for you.

Successful candidates will join a team of 4 other physicists, 7 dosimetrists and 7 physicians. Together we will implement new technology and deliver high quality cancer care to the residents of Southeastern North Carolina. The department is expanding and acquiring several new technologies within the next 6 months. Upcoming projects include installation and commissioning of the first Halcyon in the region and installation and commissioning of a TrueBeam Edge.

The department uses Varian Linacs, Eclipse treatment planning, Aria R&V, Oncentra HDR Brachytherapy, MIM Symphony LDR Brachytherapy and Brainlab's iplan for SRS. Productivity software includes MIM Maestro with AI contouring, EZFluence and ClearCheck by Radformation.The department is interested in data analytics and automation, candidates that are skilled in coding, sql and data mining techniques are highly desired.

Summary:
The Physicist I provides knowledge of radiation properties, treatment planning and delivery techniques to advise dosimetrists, physicians and other members of the radiation oncology team on the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy.

Responsibilities:
1. Generates treatment plans for patient treatments as needed.
2. Seeks guidance from senior physicists when designing complex or non-standard treatment plans.
3. Understands and advises physicians and therapists on proper patient simulation setup and treatment delivery techniques.
4. Follows necessary safety protocols to ensure safe and effective delivery of radiation treatment.
5. Demonstrates knowledge of current best practices for quality assurance.
6. Performs recommended quality assurance procedures to ensure the safe operation of radiation equipment.
7. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of equipment function and operation.
8. Regularly assesses current processes to ensure their effectiveness and continuous quality improvement.
9. Performs patient specific quality assurance procedures include ding but not limited to: -Initial treatment plan checks, IMRT/SBRT/SRS QA, In-vivo dose measurements, Activities that are required to ensure the safe delivery of radiation treatments.
10. Provides special physics consults to radiation oncologists as needed.
11. Performs weekly chart checks in accordance with department policies.
12. Maintains continuing education and professional development.
13. Responsible and accountable for:
• Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.
• Active participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety.
• Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace.
• Proper utilization of appropriate personal protective equipment.

Experience: Some experience preferred in radiation oncology physics. Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence.
