Summary:

The Director of Nursing for Community Hospitals (DONCH) is responsible for overseeing the coordination of all nursing practices, including emergency medicine and respiratory for multiple small hospital (ADC < 100) for Novant Health. In the role, the DONCH should have a vision of the big picture with an understanding that enhancing clinical effectiveness may not be a one-time endeavor, and that meaningful change requires continuous improvement. The DONCH also must have foresight to understand that a change in one process, may affect another. Expectations include creativity, influencing the teams executing the change, evaluating and designing nursing process and assisting with the execution of changes. The DONCH must have experience with matrixed leadership in a large organization and be able to demonstrate leading through influence. 

 

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions • The Director provides leadership, guidance, and direction in achieving outcomes consistent with organizational mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives for all nursing modalities within multiple small hospital facilities with average daily census less than 100. The Director assesses, plans, coordinates, and evaluates the clinical and operational functions of nursing and emergency medicine services to ensure quality, cost effective health care is provided by an educated and competent staff. The Director promotes a safe environment and performs all related job responsibilities in a safe manner. The Director maintains professional competency in the applications of the principles of management. • Utilizes transformational leadership in partnership with employees to develop goals and objectives consistent with organizational mission and philosophy. • Participates in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision-making involving multidisciplinary teams. Coordinates the full nursing care for a small hospital facility with other healthcare disciplines and assists in integrating services across the continuum of health care. • Assures that resource allocations are based on identified needs and current nursing benchmarking measures. • Exhibits creativity and flexibility in current role, which allows easy transition to respond to emerging problems, changes in practice or demand in the health care market. • Evaluates and mentors a family/patient centered care environment to involve a holistic approach by involving patient/family in decision-making and to evaluate the effectiveness of patient and family education and resources. • Integrates evidence and research findings into practice. • Engages quickly and directly with internal and external stakeholders and proactively collaborates with senior leaders to drive to conclusions and think creatively. • Builds a high-functioning team that meets all operating goals, including cost of health care, clinical quality improvement, regulatory compliance, administrative costs and employee engagement. • Fosters a culture of innovation and creativity to enable the hospital to meet its strategic goals. Qualifications

* Registered Nurse

Education:

* Bachelors Degree
* Masters Degree

Other information:

Education:  4 Year / Bachelors Degree BSN required.  Graduate Degree required

Experience: 5 years preferred experience in management; experienced with change management and clinical processes.

Refer to the Life Support Training Policy NH-HR-3096.  

Licensure/Certification: Current RN Licensure in appropriate state required

Additional Skills/Requirements (required) • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing; effective interpersonal skills and ability to relate to the Medical Staff; understanding of clinical processes and interdepartmental procedures and functions, ability to present formal presentations. Excellent communication skills, ability to coach and mentor others, effective critical thinking skills, demonstrated ability to use computer applications for project and database management, organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and timeliness, acute awareness of confidentiality of information, recognized ability to effectively communicate (oral and written) with customers i.e. clinicians, administrative teams, management and project contacts within NH or associate with projects, strong willingness to expand knowledge through training, holds a valid driver’s license, has willingness to travel between locations, reliable transportation.
