To coordinate and assist the provider to ensure safe quality/cost effective service and care for the people within the practice population.

 

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions •Patient Care: Perform and document necessary preliminary exam needs on patient to include: height, weight, blood pressure, and temperature. Ensure patient chart is complete. Interview patient to identify current medical needs and relevant patient history. Assist with examinations, treatments, special tests and procedures. Administer medication as directed by the physician. Use Best Practice Alerts and Health Maintenance to close care gaps. •Clinical Lab Duties: Specimen collection and Testing Analysis: Performs venipuncture, skin puncture, and lab procedures with attention to accuracy by checking patient ID and DOB. The employee understands and follows HIPAA guidelines and ensures the confidentiality of patient results. Reporting results: Ensures all test results, in-house and referred, are reported to the provider by checking a manifest or providing oversight of pending labs. The employee documents or assists in documentation or corrective action needed for Quality assessment, Proficiency Testing and Quality Control. Documentation: Ensures all routine, daily, monthly, and annual maintenance and QC are performed, documented and kept for the appropriate number of years. •Immunization Administration: Administer immunization injections. Review immunization record and potential allergic reactions. Identify and review side effects and treatment. May be the Immunization Registry contact and attend workshops as directed. •Patient Contact: Code nursing visits, lab requests and procedures for billing. Verify and update patient data. Knowledge growth and development of individuals, and life stages. Collect data from patient /family inquiries and report to provider. Make patient referrals. Complete physician orders. Collection of data for general patient assessment. Works within the team to identify areas of improvement and actively participates in the improvement process. Complete forms and other documentation with provider oversight as appropriate. Maintains communication with patients as needed. •Clerical Duties: Assists with registration, scheduling and check-out as indicated. Greets and welcomes patient. Verifies and corrects patient demographics and updates medical insurance or payment sources. Collects and enters co-payments. Supports other duties related to front-desk and scheduling. Demonstrates the Novant Health service standards with each patient encounter and delivers remarkable customer service. •Patient Education: Reinforce patient education under the direction of the physician. Identify risk factors and chronic health problems. Report individual data to patient. Reinforces provider education regarding patient/family self-care management. •Teamwork and Communication: Work within a team to achieve patient and team goals. Share and initiate regular and professional communication with co-workers. Facilitate and/or participate in regular staff meetings. •On-going Competency: Demonstrates continual competence in clinical duties and responsibilities through annual review and completion of UAP agreement with provider, annual mandatory education (AME), annual skills assessment, maintenance of basic life support, and other mandatory clinical training as indicated. •Lead duties: Maintains communication with clerical practice departments and physicians to address and respond to issues/concerns. Acts the go to person in absence of a clerical supervisor. Models leadership qualities for other team members. Works with a sense of urgency, ownership and accuracy to coordinate and assist the provider to ensure safe quality/cost effective service and care for the people within the practice population. May order or assist with ordering of clinical supplies, linens, pharmaceuticals, as well as maintain inventories and required logs/documentation. Responsible for day-to-day clinical operations. Attends all clinical leads meetings and reports necessary updates to physicians and/or clinical staff. Assist or maintain clinical compliance in the office-maintaining proper documentation for cleaning logs, sterilization logs, temperature logs, assessing new safety sharps annually, proper documentation and inventory of controlled substances, etc. Responsible for making sure all required audits and/or reviews are done according to established Novant policies and procedures. May enter verge audits or complete timekeeper duties as assigned. Develops and implements action plans when Dashboard targets are not met. May be responsible for orienting new clinical staff in office. Schedules clinical staff for CPR certification/recertification as required and implements annual PPD requirements. •Human Experience: Provide guidance to team members as they navigate patient concerns through teaching, good communication and trust building behaviors. Seek feedback from team members for innovative ideas to improve the experience for both patients and team members. Utilize relationship building skills through rounding to provide training and coaching to team members for how to effectively connect with patients. Provide guidance, training and coaching to team members on Always Event behaviors and use patient feedback to create innovative ideas to meet patient needs. Acknowledge the diversity of your team and patients and model an inclusive environment by involving others in decision making. Ensure team members have pertinent information to educate patients on procedures and processes. Be a role model for the mission, vision and values through interactions with team members and patients. Demonstrate our people credo by using influence to instill passion in team members to care for each other, our patients and our communities. •This job role could have occasional exposure to radiation depending on the clinic – such as bariatrics, Orthopedics, podiatry/foot & ankle, neurosciences (spine specialists). Non-Essential Functions •All other duties prescribed by the Unlicensed Assistive Personnel agreement.

Education: High School or GED Required Certified Medical Assistant requirements: Graduate of Certified Medical Assistant program. Certifications allowed through American Association of Medical Assistants. Registered Medical Assistant requirements: Registry allowed through Association of Medical Technologists. Years of Experience: Previous work in a medical setting preferred Refer to the Life Support Training Policy NH-HR-3096. Licensure/Certification Type (ex NP, RN, CMA): Current certification as CMA or RMA Required Additional Skills/Requirements (required) •Ability to successfully complete generic and department specific skills validation and competency testing.
