The Lead Patient Access Technician reports to the Regional Manager. The Number One job responsibility is to deliver the most remarkable patient experience, in every dimension, every time, and understand how to contribute to the health system’s vision of achieving that commitment to patients and families. Responsible for customer relations at initial and ongoing contact with patients, visitors, and referral sources. The Lead Patient Access Technician is responsible for the accuracy and completion of patient accounts based on departmental protocol, policies and procedures, and compliance with regulatory agencies, to include pre-admit/admit/pre-register/register/scheduling functions, ensuring all insurance requirements are met prior to patients’ discharge, and pursuing cash collection. Trains and educates Outpatient Rehab Patient Access Team Members in job duties. Monitors and maintains policy and procedures and standard work for the specific assigned area. Organizes prioritizes and coordinates the day-to-day work activities of the assigned area. Engages in ongoing communication with department management to assure departmental goals and objectives are met. Supports LEAN activities and adapts to changing environment to meet patient and department needs. Advocates for Novant Health, Rehabilitation Services, patients, team members. Responsibilities:

Promote a remarkable Customer Centered Service to include: a. Provide remarkable, compassionate, expert and safe care with every experience. 4. Analyze insurance coverage and benefits for service to ensure timely reimbursement, obtaining all PAC and/or authorizations as appropriate. 5. Facilitate payment sources for uninsured patients. 6. Determine if patient’s condition is the result of an accident, performing complete research with law enforcement, employers, etc. to determine the appropriate source of liability/payment. 7. Admit/register/pre-register/schedule patients, correcting as necessary all patient demographic and financial data. 8. Effectively demonstrates participation and support of a. Determine if patient’s condition is the result of an accident, performing complete research with law enforcement, employers, etc. to determine the appropriate source of liability/payment. 14. Admit/register/pre-register/schedule patients, correcting as necessary all patient demographic and financial data. 15. Resolve insurance claim rejections/denials and remedy expediently. 16. Calculate and collect payments appropriately for all patients, ensuring reconciliation of daily cash deposit. 17. Maintain general knowledge of CMS guidelines and third-party payers, specifically, Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial insurances, HMO’s, PPO’s, POS, indemnity plans, and Worker’s Compensation, etc. 18. Evaluate diagnoses to ensure compliance with the Local Coverage Determination (LCD). 19. Perform those duties necessary to ensure all accounts are processed accurately and efficiently. 20. Coordinates daily activities, assists in the development of team member schedules, provides input for the development of department budgets and assists with team member development. 21. Reviews team member productivity and provide required counseling, training, and instruction to ensure peak performance and job standards. Takes appropriate actions where needed to correct deficiencies. 22. Monitors team members schedules to provide for optimal staffing and to ensure peak productivity at all times. 23. Demonstrates accountability by participating in education, training, LEAN and quality improvement efforts, councils/workgroups, and/or advocacy efforts. 24. Represents the Outpatient Rehab PAT department in meetings, training and process review sessions related to PFS issues. Maintains a professional and leadership demeanor while representing the department and the Medical Center. 26. Maintains courteous and cooperative working relationships with all internal and external customers of the Medical Center. 27. Works with management team to address disciplinary action issues. Assists by providing input for annual performance evaluations. 28. Performs other related duties as required and adjusts schedule as needed to support team performance.

Other information:

Education: High School or GED required

Experience: 3 years experience in patient accounting/health care finance setting with computer knowledge and data entry required.

Refer to the Life Support Training Policy NH-HR-3096.

Licensure/Certification: Certified Patient Access Technician (CPAT) or Certified Health Access Associate (CHAA) certification preferred.
