What You'll Do

Summary:

Works under the supervision of the Pre-Analytical & Client Services Manager. The Lead Technical Assistant is responsible for assisting the Manager with oversight of Outpatient Lab team members and specimen collection from patients in Outpatient Laboratory locations as well as specimen drop offs from patients and clients. They serve as a resource to and for the Outpatient Lab team related to specimen collection and interdepartmental and intradepartmental problem solving. Assists the Manager with scheduling, maintaining a high level of customer service and documentation. Interfaces with internal stakeholders without outpatient services (pharmacy, infusion, nursing, etc.). Assists with follow up of incident reports and variance reports related to specimen collection and drop off. Assists Manager with duties related to interview of applicants, orientation of new employees, student training, orientation follow up and annual competency for lab team members. Responsible for assisting the Manager with maintaining a current procedure manual, teaching phlebotomy students and staff and communication of and training related to changes and expectations in the Outpatient Laboratory. Assist Manager in assuring department meets all standards for CAP, DNV, OSHA, Infection Control, Safety and NHNHRMC Standards.


Responsibilities:

1. Participates in Education Programs both internal and external to maintain current knowledge for maintaining personal skills. 2. Teaching and updating skills and knowledge of current employees, new employees and students. Providing continuing education for OP Lab. 3. Maintains supplies and inventory and assists with ordering supplies, stock organization and annual inventory. Oversees repair of equipment in the OP Lab area. 4. Oversees daily assignments and workflow of OP Lab Department. Prioritizes workflow and makes decisions relative to workload. Coordinates and supervises both planned and unplanned workflow and customer service opportunities as the need arises. 5. Assists Manager with planning, scheduling, budgeting and management. Attends meetings, planning sessions and functions as a part of the management team as required. 6. Provides oversight for OP Lab Department to ensure compliance with standards set by Medical Center and regulatory/accrediting agencies. 7. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills while performing assigned duties. Assists Manager with Laboratory Customer Service initiatives. 8. Evaluates specimen collection equipment and makes recommendations for equipment changes to provide better patient care, better utilize supply budget, and provide for safety of staff. 9. Acts as a technical resource for the OP Lab staff by providing assistance, guidance, problem solving and information to staff on a day-to-day basis. May perform moderate or waived point of care testing per CLIA guidelines. 10. Assists in ensuring a clean and safe work area which is functional as well as professional in appearance and safe for patient care and staff. 11. Retrieves and communicates appropriate test results and/or other information to authorized individuals in accordance with medical center policy 12. Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence. 13. Performs other related duties as required.

Position Requirements

Credentials:
* Cert Phlebotomist

Education:
* High School Diploma

Other information:

1. Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required with some post high school education. Associates Degree or equivalent preferred. 2. Licensure: Phlebotomy Technician certification by ASCP, NCA, NHA or a national accrediting agency approved by the Department Manager preferred. Certification eligible also acceptable. 3. Experience: One year of Phlebotomy and EKG experience required. Customer Service and/or Management experience preferred. Computer skills using spreadsheet and word processing preferred.
