What You'll Do

Summary:

The Operating Room Assistant I reports to the Manager and Assistant Managers and works under the direction of the Professional Registered Nurse. The Operating Room Assistant I is responsible of assisting with care of patients.

Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates aseptic and sterilization techniques and assists the circulating nurse in any way possible during surgical procedures. 

2. Assists with case prep, turnover, maintenance of property functions supplies and equipment. 

3. Reviews preference cards and gathers appropriate equipment and supplies. 

4. Returns supplies and equipment appropriately per protocol. 

5. Maintains cleanliness in assigned work area. 

6. Participates in performance initiatives. 

7. Maintains professional accountability by participating in in-services, committees, and staffing needs. 

8. Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence. 

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Education: Must be able to read and write the English language and follow instructions, both written and verbal. 

2. Licensure / Certifications: None. 

3. Youth under the age of 18 who work in North Carolina must have a Youth Employment Certificate prior to beginning work. Employer must verify the youth's age, proposed job duties and any restrictions. Employer to ensure that the youth is not employed in any hazardous and detrimental occupations. The Youth Employment Certificate will be signed by the youth, the parent/guardian, and the employer via electronic signature.

NOTE: Work Hour Limitations for Youths 

16- and 17-year-old youth may be employed with the following restrictions: 

During the school term, youth who are enrolled in grades 12 or lower cannot be employed between 11 pm and 5 am when there is school for the youth the next day. 

Minors are not permitted to operate heavy equipment, work from a ladder or scaffolding over 20 feet, drive an automobile to transport passengers, and must take precaution to avoid exposure to toxic chemicals and radioactive substances.
