The Oncology Services Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator promotes optimal care in clinical activities, professional and public education, research activities, and quality assurance activities. This individual works under the supervision of the Market Sr Director and in collaboration with the Cancer Institute Lead Physician to optimize operational performance, clinical workflow and patient satisfaction. This is a multifaceted role, incorporating expertise in data analysis, oncology/infusion workflows, and performance improvement methodologies in order to achieve measurable improvements in the 5 pillars, with emphasis on quality. The Oncology Services (PI) Coordinator evaluates the day-to-day clinical workflow of oncology patients and serves as primary contact between providers, administrators and other departments to improve processes, create efficiencies, expand services for oncology patients. This person is responsible for the organization, coordination, and presentation of Cancer Institute data at the Department of Oncology meetings and the Novant Health Cancer Institute meeting. The Oncology Services (PI) Coordinator is self-directed and acts as an effective leader, resource, champion for change, and role model for quality oncology care.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions: •Designs, implements, and evaluates the Cancer Institute performance improvement program. •Effectively facilitates clinical outcome initiatives in collaboration with medical staff, service lines, and other hospital quality departments to improve oncology patient access, outcomes and utilization of appropriate resources. •Advocates for Cancer Institute PI initiatives related to hospital wide core teams. •Provides and maintains benchmarking information, both internal and external to the organization. •Provides case review of patient care following guidelines for referral through the professional peer review process. •Facilitates and/or chairs meetings and teams related to Oncology performance improvement. Organizes and prepares oncology debriefings with appropriate attention to detail as needed. •Uses financial records, electronic health records and other databases to identify opportunities for improved outcomes, reducing cost, hospital length of stay, and best practice utilization of appropriate resources. •Manages the aggregation and presentation of data and performance improvement information to the Cancer Institute leadership and ensures timely follow-up and closure of issues. Documentation is timely, accurate and thorough. •DPS liaison, assists with templating oncology order sets, pathways and protocols which are compliant with state and DNV requirements. •Interfaces with Cancer Institute staff and communicates issues to be tracked and trended as part of the performance improvement process. •Participates in preparatory activities necessary to facilitate successful accreditation visits. •Serves as a performance improvement liaison between Cancer Institute and other clinical services that support oncology care: pre-hospital, emergency department, imaging, surgical services, critical care and other therapies. •Analyzes complex data and presents with a professional appearance and a high degree of accuracy. •Demonstrates proficiency in various software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access to prepare graphs, flow charts, data presentation, etc. •Possesses critical thinking, analytical, teaching/coaching and research skills. •Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. •Facilitates and/or participates on performance improvement teams. •Organizes and performs work effectively and efficiently. •Maintains and adjusts schedule to enhance team performance. •Performs other related duties as required.
