Digital Products and Services team members are responsible for securely managing information systems throughout their lifecycle, including knowing what information systems are within their scope of responsibility, understanding what sensitive data is stored, transmitted, or processed on those information systems, enforcing the security principles of least privilege and least functionality, knowing what events may constitute a cybersecurity incident, and understanding their role in security incident response activities. Network Engineer Intermediate under general supervision, oversees the purchase, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN\WAN systems. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation requires evaluation and judgment. Responsible for evaluating current systems. Assist in the planning of large scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies. Require thorough knowledge of LAN\WAN systems, networks and applications. Moderate experience in Network monitoring software and tools.


Responsibilities:

Essential Functions • Operational: Develops network planning and engineering skills Ability to assimilate information, identify problems and needs, and make responsible decisions is required. Working knowledge of Visio, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of security platforms Basic knowledge of Bridges, routers, switches and network topologies including LAN, WAN, fiber and industry wiring specifications. In Depth knowledge of network monitoring tools and protocols. Understanding of VOIP, LAN and WLAN and wireless technologies. Working knowledge of Industry wiring standards and network technologies and networking theory. Working knowledge of security platforms and services. • Compliance: Uses a thorough approach to corrective procedure. Maintains documentation as required by departmental policies and procedures. • Communication: Good organizational skills required. Interact well with business associates.

Non-Essential Functions • Key Responsibilities • Direct responsibility all aspects of Novant assigned area of coverage. • Develops and executes winning technical architecture and strategy for Novant. • Coordinates all technical activities related to customers and business units. • Keep up to date on relevant solutions, products and services • Identifies and overcomes technical objections. • Effectively transfer company, industry, technical, and product knowledge to customers while increasing own knowledge and experience in same. • Proactively owns and is accountable for quality and accuracy of proposed solutions for Novant. • Assists or leads the development of strategic plans for Novant network designs and implementations. • Actively participate on assigned Virtual Team as a generalist or a specialist. • Must identify an area of specialization. • On call responsibilities for after hour coverage • Information Technology Services team members are responsible for securely managing information systems throughout their lifecycle, including; knowing what information systems are within their scope of responsibility, understanding what sensitive data is stored, transmitted, or processed on those information systems, enforcing the security principles of least privilege and least functionality, knowing what events may constitute an information security incident, and understanding their role in security incident response activities

Education Level: High School or GED Required, BS Degree in electronics, computer sciences, or engineering Preferred

Experience: Two years related experience required. Technical school training required.

Licensure/Certification Type: CCNA Preferred, ACRC Preferred, Advanced Cisco Campus Switching Preferred

Additional Skills/Requirements (required) • Role Summary: The Systems Engineer II position requires an exceptional ability to translate customer needs into viable customer solutions.The SE II is increasingly mastering a confident balance between deep technical expertise across multiple products and strong consultative skills. The SE II is able to obtain technical depth and experience with a Novant’s IT infrastructure and the capabilities of all products and is able to troubleshoot and maintain solutions that result in high customer satisfaction with minimal support issues. The SE II is often considered a very strong local generalist – as well as an expert in a specific subset of all product capabilities. SE II’s may mentor less experienced SE’s. • Intermediate knowledge of Bridges, routers, network topologies, PCs, networking, and LAN, WAN, and MAN. Working knowledge of fiber and wiring specifications. Good organizational skills required. Ability to assimilate information, identify problems and needs, and make responsible decisions is required. Ability to discern specific applications and implement same to solve business problems and needs. Working knowledge of network diagnostic tools and methodology. Ability to drive/travel to other locations/facilities as needed.

Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred) • Experience: All aspects of SE I plus 4+ years-related experience. Extreme product experience and/or relevant experience with Cisco in solution area is preferred. Demonstrable track record of engineering or consulting in general business or specific industries in support, solutions planning, Implementation and Operational background is required. Entry level understanding of LAN/WAN networking technologies including TCP/IP, Layer 2 LAN switching, VLAN Spanning tree, HSRP/VRRP, routing protocols RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP and MPLS. • Highly effective and persuasive written and verbal technical sales communication skills, including expert ability in technical design and drawings with Visio. • Easily applies hands-on technical skills with trial, proof-of-concept and diagnostic/troubleshooting needs. • Strong customer satisfaction skills: ability to assess a problem and determine an effective course of action. • Strong public speaking capability – comfortable, confident, engaging and credible with large or small audiences • Developing strong reputation for solution architecture, solution implementation and consultative methodology • Must hold or be working to the following certifications: • Cisco Certified Network Associate • Advanced Cisco Campus Switching • Implementing OSPF and BGP on Cisco Routers • Cisco Wireless Network Architect • Exhibits strong baseline NE skills in Networking, wireless architecture and related protocols and is in continuous learning to develop deeper specialization and advancement. • Very strong knowledge and experience of assigned product solution sets, including product line specifications, performance, capacity planning, troubleshooting, proof-of-concepts, trials and verification testing. • Very strong knowledge of all Novant solutions, technology and product offerings. • Deep technical skillset with product knowledge and application within the Novant architecture. • Has developed strong interpersonal skills with end customers and able to effectively communicate and be convincing with technical influencers and managers in customer environments. • Continuously seeks opportunities to learn about Novant’s overall business, industry and technology trends; Maintains a longer view on both Novant and industry trends/issues; Builds off past experiences and knowledge. • Complete understanding and relationships with other Engineering organizations that exist within Novant such as EUC, NOC and SOC.
