Essential Functions • Coaches / Counsels Staff: Provides ongoing and annual feedback on performance behaviors. Assures staff compliance with skills validation and competency requirements. Implements organizational policy and procedures, including rules of conduct. Coaches staff in developing plan to achieve personal career goals; counsels staff as appropriate. Provides education and training to staff. Delegates management of processes to staff as appropriate. Facilitates decision making within behavioral health. Provides project /process consultation to staff. • Interpersonal Effectiveness and Communication: Creates an environment that supports and respects diversity. Communicates status of core processes /activities of Behavioral Health. Implements strategies to ensure organizational financial viability. • Manages Resources: Interviews and selects staff. Builds teams and partnerships. Monitors costs to decrease overall expense while maintaining or improving quality. Assures appropriate staffing levels. Assures staff meets competence requirements. Seeks input of staff in decision making. Facilitates decision making within the department. Acts with honesty and integrity with employees and customers, showing and speaking with respect for the rights of others, human dignity, and local culture and Novant’s mission, vision, and values. Makes decisions based on an understanding of variation. Makes decisions in a timely manner. Utilizes appropriate decision making strategy: command, consultative, or consensus. Delegates management of processes to staff. • Financial Management: Manages positions within the department to achieve quality and productivity, and meet budget. Provides input into the annual operations and capital budgets. Manages the department budget (measures, monitors, and balances human and material resources). Maintains organizational policy and procedure, including rules of conduct. Provides project/process consultation to staff. Is innovative and thinks out of the box. Shows imagination through creative solutions. Displays interest and willingness to try new things; takes risks. Monitors operations measures on a monthly basis. • Behavioral Health: Knowledge psychiatric medications, psychiatric diagnosis, mental health concepts, and evidence based therapeutic interventions and treatments. Ability to establish and maintain control of violent patients, defend self and others against violent assaults, ability to react appropriately during a psychiatric crisis. Ability to intervene in a therapeutic manner for behavioral patterns demonstrated by patients with a mental illness, personality disorder, abusing substances or developmental disabilities.
