What You'll Do

Summary:
Works under the supervision of the Customer Service Manager. The Phlebotomy Coordinator is responsible assisting the Customer Service Manager with oversight of Phlebotomy Staff and specimen collection from patients in all areas of the Medical Center. He/she serves as a resource for and oversight of the Phlebotomy staff related to specimen collection, customer service, patient satisfaction and interdepartmental and intradepartmental problem solving. Assists the Customer Service Manager with scheduling, supplies and maintaining a high level of customer service and employee satisfaction. Assists with follow up of incident reports and variance reports related to Phlebotomy. Assists Customer Service Manager with duties related to interview of applicants, orientation of new employees, orientation follow up and annual competency for phlebotomy staff. Responsible for assisting the Customer Service manager with maintaining a current procedure manual, teaching phlebotomy students and staff and communication of and training related to changes and expectations in the Phlebotomy Department. Assist Customer Service Manager in assuring department meets all standards for CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, Infection Control, Safety and NHRMC Standards. Will assist the Customer Service Manager with budgeting, ordering stock.


Responsibilities:
1. Participates in Education Programs both internal and external to maintain current knowledge for maintaining personal skills.
2. Teaching and updating skills and knowledge of current employees, new employees and students. Providing continuing education for Phlebotomy Department.
3. Maintains supplies and inventory and assists with ordering supplies, stock organization and annual inventory. Oversees repair of equipment and facility in the Phlebotomy area.
4. Oversees daily assignments and workflow of Phlebotomy Department. Prioritizes workflow and make decisions relative to workload. Coordinates and supervises both planned and unplanned workflow and customer service opportunities as the need arises.
5. Assists Customer Service Manager with planning, scheduling, budgeting and management. Attends meetings, planning sessions and functions as a part of the management team as required.
6. Complies with, and provides over site for Phlebotomy Department to ensure compliance with standards set by Medical Center and regulatory/accrediting agencies.
7. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills while performing assigned duties. Assists Customer Service Manager with Laboratory Customer Service, Patient Satisfaction and Employee Satisfaction initiatives.
8. Assist Customer Service Manager with evaluation of specimen collection equipment and makes recommendations for equipment changes to provide better patient care, better utilize supply budget, and provide for safety of staff.
9. Acts as a technical resource for the Phlebotomy staff by providing technical and management assistance, guidance, problem solving and information to staff on a day-to-day basis.
10. Assists in ensuring a clean and safe work area which is functional as well professional in appearance and safe for patient care and staff.
11. Performs computer duties and keeps records as required and assigned.
12. Retrieves and communicates appropriate test results and/or other information to authorized individuals in accordance with medical center policy

Position Requirements

Credentials:
* Cert Phlebotomist
Nonessential:
* American Society Cl Pathology
* Nat'l Credential'g Agency Lab

Education:
* Associate Degree

Other information:
1. Education: Associates Degree or equivalent with a minimum of 4 years experience or Medical Laboratory Technician Degree with 4 years of Phlebotomy experience required. Hospital Phlebotomy experience preferred.
2. Licensure: Phlebotomy Technician II certification by ASCP, NCA, NHA or a national accrediting agency approved by the Laboratory Customer Service Manager.
3. Experience: Four years of Phlebotomy experience required. Customer Service and/or Management experience preferred. Computer skills in use of spreadsheet and word processing required.
