What You'll Do

Summary:

Provides clinical application support to clinical end users located in multiple locations across the network. Perform in-depth analysis of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with EMR software and multidisciplinary service line workflows for inpatient or ambulatory settings. Collaborates with other team members to assist in design, validation, testing, and problem resolution related to the electronic health record and other electronic clinical systems as needed. The Clinical Informaticist applies the understanding of data, information, knowledge and wisdom key concepts into their practice to enhance the efficient use of the EMR.


Responsibilities:

1.Work with the leaders of multidisciplinary service lines and application analysts to review, develop, optimize and implement unique clinical workflows that support clinical end users

2.Collaborate with technical and clinical resources, and end user groups to ensure the EMR and clinical systems meet the clinical end user needs as well as the organizations clinical and patient care needs

3.Strong liaison between clinical users and IT, workflow focused

4.Meet with clinical end users with the dual intention of optimizing and standardizing their workflow, and identifying and developing new workflows that improve the efficiency of the clinical staff

5.Problem solving ability to understand and empathize with end users in order to develop solutions for improved patient care and end user efficiency

6.Develop and communicate solutions to identified workflows and application based problems

7.Develop solutions and ensure, if necessary, that the solutions are configured correctly by the IT analyst team

8.Review, test and validate new application releases to ensure that new releases meet the needs of the end user and patients

9.Participate in training and work with end users. Troubleshoot problems and questions from end users and from the IT application teams

10.Participates in the development/testing and education of system upgrades.

11.Integrates LEAN methodologies into practice and education programs.

12.Maintains a broad technical knowledge of all IT clinical software and hardware being utilized to be technically conversant at all levels of problem solving through reading, briefings, seminars and classes.

13.Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and innovation and offer/create viable recommendations/options.

14.Strong communication and diplomacy skills required, and must have the ability to build positive working relationships with physician-users, clinical leadership, practice managers and staff.

15.Participate in preparation and readiness for regulatory surveys and organizational certifications/awards as it relates to clinical documentation and the use of electronic clinical systems

16.Participate in clinical decision support, emergency preparedness, order set development, and organizational change

17.Generates Innovative ideas to move the organization to its highest level of performance by synthesizing information and translating it to data driven outcomes.

18.Provides new and up to date knowledge database information and follows documented standards for additions/modifications/changes.

19.Participates in the development of Policies and Procedures for area(s) of responsibility.

20.Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision and values of NHRMC and demonstrate the standards of performance (teamwork, communication, compassion, ownership) on a daily basis.

21.If Epic certified or proficient in a clinical application, participates in basic build of assigned and approved documentation changes in their identified application.

Credentials:
EPIC Certification

Education:
Bachelors Degree

Other information:

Licensure / Certifications: Epic credential or certification is preferred prior to hire. If not achieved prior to employment, certification or credential in indicated Epic application is required within 3 months of employment. Relevant Epic application will be communicated at time of employment. Certification or credentialing is required on the Epic version current at NHRMC. Certifications must maintain new version training in assigned application or have credentialing remain active in at least one application. Clinical license preferred: RN, PT, OT, RT, CRNA, Pharmacist

Experience and Skills/Abilities

  • Five years of experience in a clinical setting, two years of experience with clinical information systems required.
  • Lean experience required.
  • Knowledge of healthcare delivery, clinical practice, and healthcare operational support. Experience with (Epic) Electronic Health Record systems is required.
  • Project management skills preferred
  • Proven track record of academic and professional success
  • Strong communication skills and proven ability to interact with physicians
  • Strong analytical and decision making skills with the ability to probe for information about underlying needs of the organization and user community
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to address issues and take ownership, knowing when and how to escalate issues
  • Sufficiently mobile to go from office to hospital and other sites in our healthcare system
  • Standard working schedule of Monday – Friday with weekends/holidays/on call as needed based on organizational needs

Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence.

Performs other duties as assigned.
