The Clinical Practice Specialist develops and directs a standardized clinical education curriculum and evidenced-based nursing care standards for an identified patient population.


Responsibilities:

Essential Functions • Consultation : Clinical and system consultation for nursing shared governance councils, multidisciplinary councils, and other governance as appropriate. In consultation with Clinical Nurse Educators and other subject matter experts , determines education offerings by specialty area across system; evaluates and standardizes best clinical practices and technology. Provides consultation for strategic plans and specialty service line goals. Consults with clinical team for plan of care development in complex situations and sentinel events. • Leadership: Demonstrates Novant Health leader competencies. Develops highly collaborative relationships with Nursing, Physician, and other NH leaders; fosters positive communications and builds relationships with nursing team members. • Expertise: Develops courses and curricula related to nursing specialty and clinical needs assessment. Develops clinical standards, policies, procedures, and educational resources related to specialty area. Identifies opportunities to improve care delivery for specialty areas, drive practice change, and facilitate translation into practice. Retains expertise in clinical specialty, as appropriate. • Active Learning: Analyzes educational needs assessments and competency requirements. Develops educational programs incorporating current science, best practices and principles of adult education. Designs, oversees, and evaluates specialty orientation programs / competency plans. Participates in the delivery of educational programs as appropriate (e.g. “Train the Trainer”, symposiums, certification requirements, etc.). • Research and evidence-based practice: Promotes evidence-based practice through research evaluation and utilization. Conducts literature reviews to identify best practices. Uses quality indicators to evaluate and improve practice. Serves as primary investigator for nursing research and quality improvement studies. Disseminates research findings.

Experience Years of Experience Required/Preferred Description 3 Required Minimum of three years clinical practice in specialty area. Licensure/Certification Type (ex NP, RN, CMA) Required/Preferred Current RN Licensure in appropriate state Required RN prof cert in relevant specialty - see addendum Required Additional Skills/Requirements (required) 

ED Experience Highly Preferred

Current and future trends/practice in area of responsibility; regulatory and governing standards, policies and procedures; information systems and software used in area of responsibility; equipment used in performing assigned duties; application of safety and infection control policies and procedures; teambuilding, conflict management, and interpersonal relationship skills; principles of adult learning and teaching methods/models; effective classroom presentation style; decision making, project leadership and consultation, delegation and communication skills; understanding of customer needs and expectations and knowledge for improvement to exceed customer expectations; knowledge of research and EBP methodologies and analyses; ability to write effectively.
