What You'll Do

Summary:

Works under the direct supervision of a Shift Supervisor/Lieutenant of NHRMC Company Police or designated representative. Enforces NC General Statues and complies with existing policies, procedures, laws, regulations and directives. Performs activities that deter crime and security related incidents to ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, employees, Medical Staff, and NHRMC property. Performs other duties as assigned. 


Responsibilities:

1.Performs all assigned duties and requested services in a professional manner while displaying a positive teamwork attitude toward all customers.

2.Maintains proficiency in the knowledge of appropriate Company Police Laws / Regulations, state county, and city ordinances. Initiates appropriate actions pertaining to violations occurring in/or on NHRMC’s property.

3.Performs operational requirements to include, but not limited to maintaining high visibility to identify and using proper de-escalation techniques resolve potential violent situations in a reasonable manner; provide transport escorts for internal/external IVC patients; transport patients to their residence; serve IVC commitment paperwork; render vehicle assistance; effect traffic parking control; coordinate proper disposition of expired individuals; conduct area personnel and patient searches; effect proper arrests including jail processing; provide access control to sensitive areas; after hour controls patient and visitor entry points; provide assistance as required for customers; respond to STAT’s CODES/ emergency situations and provide emergency access control during unit lockdowns; uses metal screening systems to prevent weapons from entering treatment areas; and conduct required requested investigations to include follow–up and evidence control/proper disposal.

4.Responds to calls for disputes, complaints, suspicious activity, loud and disruptive behavior, motor vehicle violations and other breaches of the peace.Completes calls by determining the true nature of the situation and taking appropriate legal or persuasive action as warranted.

5.Responds to all emergency medical and fire calls to render assistance when necessary.

6.Conducts investigations by completing police documentation for reportable crimes and traffic collisions, interviewing, and interrogating individuals, utilizing knowledge of search and seizure laws, and obtaining warrants for arrests

7.Coordinate with District Attorney, testify, and present findings in court.

8.Conducts foot patrol of high-risk areas and other assigned areas of hospital property to include monitoring NC DOC inmates.

9.Provides a variety of non-enforcement services to the hospital community, and its members, including assisting motorists, transporting valuables, transport needed controlled substances to other hospital locations; assist with potentially infectious patient discharges; transport lab bio-hazard specimens; escorting citizens, raising and lowering flags, message and document delivery, locking/unlocking campus buildings or doors, turning lights on and off, building security, and other tasks at the direction of Company Police Administration.

10.Provides protection for persons transporting money for the business.

11.Conducts routine maintenance on police, staff, visitor, and patient vehicles as required.Ensures that the police vehicle is in proper working condition for the incoming officer.

12.Serve as a replacement dispatcher to answer emergency calls, calls for service, monitor fire alarms and CCTV systems, and to maintain operations of the Hospital.

13.Performs administrative functions in respect to completing required written reports / logs; obtaining statements; serving criminal and civil summons/subpoena’s, conducting required security risk assessments surveys; and required/requested investigation documentation to include using specific investigative data bases such as NCAWARE.

14.Affects the timely resolution of situations, which will reduce overall organizational liability, issues in the execution of required duties and responsibilities.

15.Maintains professional relationships with internal and external contacts at all levels of NHRMC and outside agencies to include state and local law enforcement agencies; other healthcare facilities, medical examiners, and recognized professional organizations to promote NHRMC’s image and philosophy.

16.As required participates in the development of projects and study of specific issues requiring a proposal or concept.

17.Maintains proficiency in the knowledge of required duties procedures of the NHRMC Security Management Program to ensure compliance with DNV and CMS standards.

18.Must meet all training mandated by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards annually to include training mandated by Company Police / NHRMC.

19.Demonstrates standard of performance (ownership, teamwork communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence.

20.Performs County Morgue duties such as storing and moving deceased persons as required.

Position Requirements

Credentials:
* Drivers License Class C
* N.C. Sworn Police Officer
Nonessential:
* Crisis Prevention Cert

Education:
* Technical/Vocational Diploma

Other information:

Education: High School / GED required. Associate degree preferred. 

Licensure/Certifications: Company Police Agency: Sworn position IAW NC General Statutes Chapter 74E. Must be eligible and obtain certification as Company Policy Officer within (1) year from hire date. American Heart Association HS (Heart Saver) is required. NC Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification is required if not sworn officer at the time of hire. CPR/AED required. IAHSS Security Officer Certification is preferred. Must be obtained within 1 year of hire. 

Experience: Recent (same year) Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) graduate or possesses a current probationary or general certification required. Minimum of one year in a law enforcement/security capacity or healthcare related environment preferred.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Individual will possess commensurate combination of education, experience and qualifications.
